We are very sad to announce that our Conductor, John Thwaites, will be leaving us to take up the a post of Head of Keyboard at Birmingham Conservatoire in September. We will all miss him greatly, although we wish him every success in his new venture. The Bridge of Weir Choral Society was founded in 1948 and comprises a group of diverse people who join together to share the joy of making music. The Choir has around 60 members of all age groups and abilities who live in and around the Gryffe Valley of Renfrewshire.
We prepare for at least two public concerts a year, usually singing in St Columba Church, Kilmacolm. In December we perform a traditional Christmas Concert with a mix of familiar and less well known Christmas music. Our Spring Concert in March / April usually features one or more larger choral works. The Choir sings with professional soloists or singers from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. We are often accompanied by one of the many local professional organists, and sometimes sing with an orchestra or small instrumental ensemble. To gain an idea of the music we perform, please go to our Repertoire. |

We are a friendly bunch and always welcome new members. Rehearsals are fun and lively, and we enjoy a chat over a cuppa half way through (and often a drink in our local afterwards). Members of the choir often take part in external 'come and sing' days and in the Paisley Choral Festival. Recently a group of us enjoyed a day out in Edinburgh to sing The Messiah with over 900 other singers in the Usher Hall with Christopher Bell.

To join our merry band no audition is necessary. Please contact us if you are interested (especially if you are a Tenor or Soprano!). We rehearse on Tuesdays from September to April between 7.30pm and 9.30pm in the Lower Hall of St Columba Church, Duchal Road, Kilmacolm. The singing subscription is currently £50.00 per year.
